May 5, 2008 -- Okay, Let's Try That Again

Okay, I spent the weekend rebuilding my computer, so we should be good to have the story moving again by Wednesday. Meanwhile, it appears that Brody has come to some kind of an agreement, so it's time for more Bad Pickup Lines!

February 4, 2008 -- Ads'n'Stuff

You may notice some new ads floating around the site in the upcoming months. These are part of my agreement with Keenspot and help pay for the bills around here, so I hope they won't bug you too much. Cartoonists need to eat, too! ;)

January 30, 2008 -- Whatever Happened to The End? (Or, "You're Still Here!")

You remember last year, when I said that Suburban Jungle was gonna wrap up and go on a long break by the end of 2007?

Well ... that was before the house. And the cat. And my parents' health. And work stoopidity. And Yin's story taking six months longer than I expected. And all the other stuff that's been dropping 16-ton weights on me all year.

The fact is, storywise, I am now about where I expected to be around March or April of last year -- but other than that, the plan is still moving forward. I am now aiming for sometime in or around March or April of 2008 as the closing date for "SJ the strip". Other than that, the plan remains the same. So think of the next couple of months as "bonus time"!

January 14, 2008 -- Bonus Art! Tiffany Tiger, Temple Raider

Those blue lines from last Monday got inked and colored and turned into a print! We'll have a very limited number of these and other images from the Cake Portfolio line at the dealer table at Further Confusion, for anybody who wants to pick one up there. Meanwhile, enjoy!

July 17, 2007 -- Kitten Kaboodle: Space Ranger Shirts!

It's available online, silk-screened grayscale on a black shirt and looking pretty spiffy if I do say so, myself! $14.99 in sizes S through 3X.

January 3, 2007 -- What's Coming in the New Year

Some of you know this stuff already, but I expect it's news for the rest of you; it's been in the planning stage for a long time (something like two years now, I think) but I'm going to go ahead and make it official.

Sometime in the coming year, Suburban Jungle is going to wrap up in its current "comic strip" format and go on a long-ish break. How long, I'm not exactly sure; there are several things I want to get accomplished in that time that just aren't feasible while the strip is running, which include putting some work into my long-dormant novel writing and working on other art and comic projects (such as Carpe Diem and a portfolio or two).

I would expect the break to be no shorter than six months, but presumably no longer than a couple of years. Really it just depends on how long it takes me to get everything done. During that time, NeverNever will keep running in its current format and the remaining SJ strips will be published in another volume, currently titled No Predation Allowed.

When Suburban Jungle returns, it's going to be in a new format -- i.e., comic book style. Instead of the rambly, go-all-over-the-place-but-rarely-get-anywhere nature SJ has now, it's going to be put into discrete stories that will run on the web in continuous blocks when they're finished and be published in comic book format when I have 32 pages' worth of content, which will hopefully be two or three times a year (or more, if I get a good supply of guest artists). I'm currently planning to call the new comic Tales From the Suburban Jungle to differentiate it from The Suburban Jungle (Starring Tiffany Tiger).

However, to get to that point, I'm going to need to do some serious development work and practice with the format. SJ will probably change considerably both in terms of the look (as comic pages have more more real estate to do nicer art) and the storyline. Some new characters will be added, some older or minor characters who are "finished" dramatically will be retired, etc. I don't know yet exactly what those changes will be, but you can safely assume that Tiffany, Leonard, Leona, Drezzer, Dover and Comfort will still be around.
